What changed
On January 13, 2026, RV Mobile Internet reported that Starlink had quietly replaced its Roam 50GB plan with Roam 100GB in the US and other markets, at the same $50 a month.
| Item | Before | After | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roam entry plan price | $50/mo | $50/mo | $0 |
| High-speed data included | 50GB | 100GB | +50GB |
| Price per included GB | $1.00 | $0.50 | −50% |
| Extra high-speed data | $1/GB top-up | Not offered; upgrade to Roam Unlimited | removed |
After the 100GB, the plan gives unlimited low-speed data. RV Mobile Internet quoted Starlink: “Once you reach this limit, you will receive unlimited low-speed (< 1 Mbps) data for the remainder of your billing cycle.”
Who it affected
- Existing Roam 50GB customers were moved to the 100GB plan automatically, per the report.
- New Roam customers buying the entry plan.
- Heavy users who bought $1/GB top-ups lost that option. The report said the alternative was Roam Unlimited, then $165 a month.
What it did to the cost
For most users the monthly bill did not move: $50 a month is $600 a year, $1,800 over three years. The change is in what that buys.
The one group that could pay more is anyone who regularly used a little more than 50GB and topped up. Before, 70GB in a month cost $50 + 20 × $1 = $70; after, 70GB fits inside the plan for $50. But someone needing more than 100GB at full speed no longer has a top-up and faces the jump to Unlimited: $165 against $50, a $115 monthly gap at January 2026 prices.
What stayed the same
- The $50 price (until the May 2026 increase).
- Up to two months of use outside the home country, per the report.
- Unlimited low-speed data after the cap.
What happened next
The plan went to $55 in May 2026 (May 2026 post), and a Roam 300GB tier at $80 was added between it and Unlimited (May 2026 post).
What to check yourself
- Look at your own monthly usage in the Starlink app before choosing a Roam tier. Starlink’s guidance, as quoted by the report, is that “100GB should be sufficient for about a week of normal use.”
- Compare Roam tiers over a year in the calculator. Current prices are on our prices page.
What we don’t know
- The exact rollout date in the US; the report called it a quiet change.
- We could not open a January 2026 capture of the Roam plan page; figures are as reported.
