How we verify prices
Where each number comes from, how old it's allowed to get, and what we do when we're wrong.
Sources, in order of trust
- Starlink's own pages: support articles, plan pages, legal terms. starlink.com renders with JavaScript, so we read the text of support articles through search results ("Starlink support page") and confirm them in a browser with a US address before each update.
- Dated press reports ("press report", "secondary"): used when Starlink states no figure, always with the outlet and its date.
- Unverified: when no source states an amount, or sources conflict. We print the word "unverified", never a guess, and leave it out of every total.
How old a number can get
Every fact has a checked date. The build fails if any fact is older than 21 days, so a stale price can't reach the live site. Last full check: Oct 5, 2026. Prices are re-checked every 1–2 weeks, and within 24 hours of any reported change.
Rules we write by
- No price is typed into prose. Every figure renders from one data file with its date and source.
- Examples that use made-up numbers say "hypothetical".
- We correct other sites by naming the claim and its date, never by insulting them.
- We say when Starlink is the wrong buy, on every money page.
- The same owner may run a few related, independent sites. They never link to each other site-wide.
Corrections
Every change to a published number is logged on corrections with the date, the old and new value, and why.
