    When it's the wrong buy

The honest exit. If one of these is you, the cheapest Starlink plan is still the expensive choice.

    • You can get fiber, or reliable cable at a lower all-in price. Take it.
    • 5G home internet works well at your address and costs less. Try it first; most carriers let you return it.
    • Your checkout shows a large demand surcharge. Run the 3-year math in the calculator before you pay it.
    • You need to pause a rental kit. Rental kits can't use Standby, so a seasonal place pays every month.
    • Money is tight. Compare Lifeline-eligible and lower-cost options first at fcc.gov/lifeline.

    What happens after

    1. Save your setup

Copy the link. It keeps the plan, kit and months, nothing personal.

    2. Check your address

On starlink.com, enter your service address. Note the kit options, any promo and any surcharge.

    3. Re-run with real numbers

Type the surcharge and activation fee you saw. Add your sales tax %.

    4. Decide with the 3-year total

Compare it with what you pay now. If you have 30 days of doubt, know the return rules.

Check the price at your address on starlink.com

Opens starlink.com. Enter your service address there to see your real kit options, promos and any surcharge. We don't earn anything from this link. US addresses only.

    About this calculator

    What does this calculator count?

The kit or rental activation, every month of service, Standby months for a kit you own, a rental fee if one applies, any surcharge you type, tax at the % you type, and the referral credit only if you tick every condition. The total is divided by the months for the effective monthly cost.

Why is the rental activation fee blank?

Starlink says the activation price "varies by location", and no page states a US figure. We don't guess. Type the one your checkout shows; until then the line says "not counted".

Why does the store sometimes win?

A store kit never gets the referral free month, but it's yours: you can use Standby ($10/mo instead of the full plan) and resell it. For a seasonal place, or with a deep shelf discount, that can beat starlink.com. The tool says so when it does.

Is anything I type saved or sent?

No. The math runs in your browser. The share link carries only the plan, hardware, months and store price. We count anonymous events like "calculator used" with no amounts, IP address or cookies (privacy).

    How current are the defaults?

Checked Oct 5, 2026. Prices come from Starlink support pages and dated press reports, labeled on the price page. Your checkout is the final word.
