Background. This change happened more than 90 days ago. It is kept as a dated record; check current prices before relying on any figure below.
What changed
On January 22, 2026, CamperFAQs reported that the Starlink Mini kit had dropped to $199 on starlink.com, Best Buy and Walmart, dating the change to January 21. It called this the lowest price to date.
| Item | Before | After | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mini kit, starlink.com | $249 to $299 (sources differ) | $199 | −$50 to −$100, once |
The “before” figure is uncertain and we show it as a range on purpose. CamperFAQs gives a 2025 price of $299 with a $229 holiday price in November. RV Mobile Internet, on January 13, said holiday promotions “on Mini ($299)” had expired. A later Notebookcheck summary and Tesla North both describe the Mini’s usual price in 2026 as $249. We have not been able to settle which was the list price on January 20.
Who it affected
- People buying a Mini outright for travel or as a second dish.
- Bought direct from Starlink, the Mini “requires signing up for the Roam plan,” per CamperFAQs.
- Residential Max customers could instead get a Mini as a free rental at the time, though CamperFAQs said invitations were limited.
What it did to the cost
A hardware price falls entirely on year 1. Against $249, a $199 Mini saves $50 in year 1; against $299, $100. Over three years the saving is the same one-time amount, so it matters most for short-term users.
Using January 2026 prices, a year of Roam 100GB ($50 × 12 = $600) plus a $199 Mini was $799 before shipping and tax. CamperFAQs said direct orders carried a $20 shipping charge, while retailers might offer free pickup.
What stayed the same
- Roam plan prices (Roam 100GB at $50 in January 2026).
- The Standard kit’s price was not part of this report.
What happened next
The Mini stayed around $199 through the summer, with a 12-month installment option added in July (July 2026 post). In October it was cut to $149 (October 2026 post).
What to check yourself
- Compare the starlink.com price with the store shelf price using the store-vs-starlink.com calculator.
- The equipment cost guide lists shipping and other one-time costs that sit next to the kit price.
What we don’t know
- Whether $199 was a list-price change or a promotion; the sources don’t say, and none gives an end date.
- The exact regular price just before the cut (see the range above).
- We could not open a January 2026 capture of the Mini product page; figures are as reported.
