Background. This change happened more than 90 days ago. It is kept as a dated record; check current prices before relying on any figure below.

Before and after card: the Standard kit's list price was $599 before a summer 2024 promo and became $349 on October 7, 2024.

What changed

On October 9, 2024, highspeedinternet.com reported a new US list price for the Standard kit: “Over the summer, Starlink discounted its standard receiver kit from $599 down to $299. That deal was good until Oct. 6, but one day later, Starlink rolled out a new manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP): $349 plus taxes.”

Item Before After Change
Standard kit, list price $599 $349 −$250 once
Summer promo price (ended Oct 6) $299 n/a promo, not a list price

Compared with the summer promo, the new list price was $50 higher. Compared with the previous list price, it was $250 lower. Our price history records the list-price change and leaves the promo out, as it does for all time-limited offers.

Who it affected

  • New buyers of a Standard kit on starlink.com, nationally.
  • Buyers in congested areas: the report said an additional $100 could apply at checkout in highly congested areas, bringing the total to $449, and that Starlink intended to drop it as capacity improved.
  • Existing customers were not affected.

What it did to the cost

On the $120 Residential plan of the time, with no tax or surcharge:

  • Year 1: from $599 + $1,440 = $2,039 to $349 + $1,440 = $1,789, or $250 less.
  • Year 3: from $599 + $4,320 = $4,919 to $349 + $4,320 = $4,669, the same $250 less, since the kit is paid once.

In a congested area with the reported $100 charge, year 1 was $1,889.

What stayed the same

  • Monthly plan prices were not part of this change.
  • The kit contents were not reported as changing.

What happened next

The kit list price was still $349 in our price file at its last check on 2026-10-05 (secondary source); one-time charges in busy areas are now handled as Starlink’s demand surcharge, reported in tiers in July 2026 (July 2026 post). See our equipment cost guide and the rent vs buy guide for how the kit price feeds today’s totals.

What we don’t know

  • We could not open an October 2024 capture of starlink.com; figures are as reported.
  • Which areas carried the $100 charge at the time; the report didn’t list them.
