The cheapest legitimate setup
The lowest monthly price isn't always the lowest bill. Here every plan and kit path is ranked by what year 1 actually costs.
Short answer
The cheapest monthly plans are Residential 100 Mbps ($55/mo, select areas) and Roam 100GB ($55/mo). For a home, renting usually makes the cheapest year 1, if your checkout shows a low activation fee.
Year 1, ranked
| Setup | Year 1 | Catch |
|---|---|---|
| Residential 100 Mbps, rental kit: one-time activation | $660 + activation | Select areas only; 100 Mbps cap |
| Roam 100GB, mini kit, bought on starlink.com | $809 | Data tier; meant for travel, not a fixed home |
| Residential 100 Mbps, standard kit, bought on starlink.com | $1,009 | Select areas only; 100 Mbps cap |
| Roam 100GB, standard kit, bought on starlink.com | $1,009 | Data tier; meant for travel, not a fixed home |
| Residential 200 Mbps, rental kit: one-time activation | $1,020 + activation | No Standby; must return the kit |
| Roam 300GB, mini kit, bought on starlink.com | $1,109 | Data tier; meant for travel, not a fixed home |
| Roam 300GB, standard kit, bought on starlink.com | $1,309 | Data tier; meant for travel, not a fixed home |
| Residential 200 Mbps, standard kit, bought on starlink.com | $1,369 | — |
What actually lowers the bill
- Pick the smallest plan that works. 100 Mbps covers streaming and calls for one or two people.
- Rent for a full-time home if checkout shows no monthly rental fee.
- Buy and use Standby for a place that's empty part of the year.
- Check a store's shelf price against starlink.com in store vs starlink.com; store kits sometimes win.
- Look for a promo at your address at checkout, and read any 12-month commitment terms first.
What doesn't
- "Promo codes" on coupon sites. We haven't found any public Starlink code for US orders.
- Old prices. Pages quoting the 2024 kit price or 2025 plan prices are out of date; see price history.
- Using Roam as a home plan to save money: it's built for travel, and the data tiers fill up.
When it's the wrong buy
The honest exit. If one of these is you, the cheapest Starlink plan is still the expensive choice.
- You can get fiber, or reliable cable at a lower all-in price. Take it.
- 5G home internet works well at your address and costs less. Try it first; most carriers let you return it.
- Your checkout shows a large demand surcharge. Run the 3-year math in the calculator before you pay it.
- You need to pause a rental kit. Rental kits can't use Standby, so a seasonal place pays every month.
- Money is tight. Compare Lifeline-eligible and lower-cost options first at fcc.gov/lifeline.

Run your own numbers first, then check your address. Only starlink.com can show your real kit options, promos and any surcharge.
